Moonie, Sheniz | back

I have worked as a statistician and epidemiologist (chronic disease and clinical focus) for 4 years, concurrent with obtaining my doctoral degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Saint Louis University, School of Public Health. My previous position was with the Southern Nevada Health District as a Chronic Disease Epidemiologist. My duties included identifying and analyzing chronic disease data, conducting disease surveillance, and providing evidence and guidance for disease control measures at the state and local levels. Biostatistical analysis and programming of data was integral for the evaluation of chronic disease burden and the compilation of health status data both internally and for dissemination to public health partners.

I served as a statistical data analyst at Washington University School of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine between 2002 and 2004. Duties involved managing pulmonary databases for asthma and RSV clinical trials, and performing statistical analysis for clinical research. I was responsible for manuscript and grant preparation (CDC grant – Controlling Asthma in American Cities Project) involving data analysis, study design and methodology support. In addition, I briefly worked in the Division of Biomathematics and Information Technology as a Biomathmetician in the private sector. Duties involved evaluating data for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing and antifungal development for QC/Manufacturing. Communication of statistical principles, assumptions, and implications was required across departments such as QC, Manufacturing, Engineering and Biosciences.

I am now pleased to join UNLV for my first faculty appointment in the School of Public Health!
