Assistant Professor, Epidemiology Department of Environmental and Occupational Health; Ph.D.,University of Miami Dr. Pinheiro trained as a resident physician in Portugal, completed his Masters of Science in Holland and his PhD in Miami. He was also a fellow at the Descriptive Epidemiology Department in the International Agency for Research on Cancer in France. His main research interest is the area of cancer epidemiology. Particular interests are cancer among Hispanics/Latinos, population-based Cancer Survival and the study of Second Neoplasms. His recent work has focused on improving the recognition of Hispanic ethnicity among recorded cancer cases as well as subgroup in the Hispanic population of the United States and finally the changes of risk when Hispanics immigrate to the U.S. He has authored several articles, technical reports and professional papers concerning the epidemiology of cancer of different populations both in Europe and the U.S. Dr. Pinheiro teaches epidemiology and cancer epidemiology. He has been an active working member of the EUROCARE Cancer Survival working group as well as of the National Workgroup for Race and Ethnicity in Cancer of the North American Cancer Association for Central Cancer. He has been a reviewer of scientific journals including the European Journal of Cancer, Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention and BMC Cancer . |
